Professor Jianhua Xing awarded grant from NIGMS

Professor Jianhua Xing received an R01 grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). This grant will support Xing’s project titled “Identifying and modulating mechanistic cellular paths of quiescence deepening and transition to senescence.” 

This project is a collaboration between Xing and Professor Guang Yao of University of Arizona. They will study quiescence and senescence, two distinct cellular dormancy states that play critical roles in tissue homeostasis and function. The goal of the project is to provide a unified framework to understand the molecular basis and interconnection of these states and their impact on normal and diseased tissue. 

“Dr. Yao and I have been long-time collaborators using experimental and computational approaches to study how cells control the proliferation-quiescence transition,” said Xing. “With this grant, the team will generate and integrate high-throughput single-cell data into the mathematical modeling framework developed in the Xing lab, then verify model predictions experimentally in the Yao lab.”
