Graduate tuition & mandatory fees

The University of Pittsburgh’s tuition rates and mandatory fees are for Academic Year 2023-2024, effective Fall Term 2023. CoBB tuition is set by the University of Pittsburgh and the School of Medicine.

Tuition rates are differentiated by student level and Pennsylvania versus out-of-state residency. The tuition rates are then further differentiated by school and presented based upon the following attendance modes: for students enrolled full-time, tuition rates are shown in both annual (two-term) format and in a per term format; for students enrolled part-time, tuition rates are shown in a per credit format.

Mandatory fees are differentiated by student level and the following attendance modes: for students enrolled full-time, mandatory fees are shown in both an annual (two-term) format, and in a per term format; for students enrolled part-time, mandatory fees are shown in a per term format.

Determining how full-time vs part-time students are billed

In the fall or spring terms:

Graduate students registered for 9 to 15 credits in the Fall and Spring Terms are regarded as full-time students, and are assessed the current graduate “flat” tuition rate for their academic center.

Graduate students registered for fewer than 9 credits are considered part-time, and billed on a per-credit basis.

Students will be charged per credit for each credit exceeding the maximum full-time credit limit.

In the summer term:

All students are billed on a per-credit basis in the Summer Term.

About mandatory fees

Mandatory Fee figures are applicable to students regardless of Pennsylvania or Out-of-State residency. Not listed under Mandatory Fees are:

  1. Course/major fees that are based upon registration in specific courses (e.g., lab fees).
  2. Academic fees
  3. Service fees (e.g., late application for graduation and lost ID cards).
  4. Professional workshop and professional development fees
  5. Specific-student fees

Contact the Student Payment Center at 412-624-7520 or payments@pitt.edu with questions about tuition rates, fees, and the specific charges on your student account.

Financial Aid

All students are responsible for their own tuition.

CoBB does not offer grants or scholarships. Most students finance their education by utilizing Federal Direct loans (unsubsidized and Graduate PLUS), and/or private education loans.
Information on Federal options can be found at studentloans.gov. Private education loans are available through the websites of individual lenders. Private loans are typically issued in the student’s name and require a credit check. A credit worthy cosigner, who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, may be needed if the student’s credit is not sufficient. Students should compare interest rates, fees, and repayment options such as deferment and forbearance. Maximum loan amounts, loan terms, borrower qualification, repayment schedules, and interest rates vary among lenders. Some private education loans may require interest payments while the student is enrolled in school.
