Congratulations to Chaitanya and David for their first-author paper that was accepted at iScience!! In this work they develop a gravity-driven cell culture system that can be built from Arduino components and 3D-printed scaffolds. The system allows users to automate time-varying changes in the composition of cell culture media which can be used to probe signaling mechanisms in single cells. Their results with the cells expressing an NF-kB reporter suggest that the typical NF-kB response may be a byproduct of step-wise cytokine stimulation and not a defining characteristic of the signaling network. Their results also suggest there more signaling mechanisms to be discovered in regulation of NF-kB that can only be observed using dynamic cytokine stimulation. Check back in the next few weeks for a link to the accepted paper once it is published online.
